Jerry E. Honts, associate
professor of biology, was an invited speaker at the 2003 Gordon Research Conference
on Visualization in Science and Education, held
at Queen's College in Oxford, United Kingdom, from July 20-25. He gave a talk
titled "Teaching Students to Critically Evaluate Visual Representations
of Biological Macromolecules."
An interview with
Carol Spaulding, associate professor of English, (under the pen name Carol Roh-Spaulding)
appears in the
Fall 2003 issue of GLIMMER TRAIN
(No. 48). Spaulding was interviewed by editor Linda Swanson-Davies.
John Domini,
visiting assistant professor of English, will read from his new novel TALKING
Heads: 77 and answer questions at Prairie Lights Books in Iowa
City at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3. The event will be broadcast live on WOI Radio
as part of "Evenings at Prairie Lights." The radio program can be heard
at www.prairielights.com.
Dolph Pulliam, director
of community outreach and development,
will serve as
honorary chairperson of "Take A Loved One to the Doctor Day" on Sept.
16. This event is part of the Closing the Health Gap campaign launched by the
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. African Americans and Hispanics
in Iowa are dying sooner and suffering preventable illness more frequently than
Iowa's white population, according to HHS. "The focus of this day is to
encourage individuals to take charge of their health by visiting their doctor
or other health care professionals," Pulliam said.
