Drake students, faculty and staff are invited to attend a commemoration service at 7:15 p.m. Sept. 11 in the sanctuary of First Christian Church, 25th Street and University Avenue. Cottage Grove Presbyterian Church and the Muslim community will be participating in the nondenominational service.

TEAM DRAKE TO PARTICIPATE IN 'WALK AS ONE'

"Walk As One" is NCCJ's largest and fastest-growing national fundraiser. Every year, thousands of walkers across the country raise millions of dollars by asking their friends, family members, co-workers and neighbors to sponsor them as they walk with NCCJ.

Registration for "Walk As One" will start at 12:30 p.m. at Gray's Lake Park, Fleur Drive and George Flagg Parkway. In addition to the walk, there will be live entertainment and food.

DRAKE HIRES ASSISTANT SOFTBALL COACH KATY JENDRZEJEWSKI
Katy Jendrzejewski, who earned second team All-Mideast Region honors as co-captain of the University of Iowa softball team in 2001, has been named assistant softball coach at Drake University. She will join head coach Rich Calvert in his first year at Drake.

"I'm really excited to work under Rich after playing for him for four years," said Jendrzejewski. "The girls have been really hard workers and practice has been going well. I know it's only going to move in a positive direction with Rich at the helm."

Jendrzejewski, who is originally from Portland, Ore., was a member of the Iowa softball team from 1997-2001, where she was named captain in 2000-2001. She earned third team All-Big Ten Conference, second team All-Mideast Region and NCAA Region Seven All-Tournament team honors during her senior season in 2001. She led the Hawkeyes with a .398 batting average and an on base percentage of .473 her senior year, and was second on the team with seven home runs and 34 RBIs. In the fall of 2001, she became the graduate assistant coach for the Hawkeyes before transferring to Portland State as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2002 spring season.

The classes will be held on Friday afternoons at Drake's Harmon Fine Arts Center.

A parent orientation for all three classes will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, in room 204 of the Harmon Fine Arts Center. Tuition and registration fees vary. For more information, call x4011.
