  • Last day to register for the Central Iowa Hate Crimes Forum to be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, Olmsted Center, 1 to 5:30 p.m. To register, call 274-5571.
  • Opening reception for "AIGA 50 Books/50 Covers," Anderson Gallery, 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Drake volleyball vs. DePaul, Drake Knapp Center, 5 p.m.
  • Paleontologist Christopher Brochu will discuss "The Science of Sue," room 101, Meredith Hall, 7:30 p.m.
  • Fall public presentations begin at the Drake Municipal Observatory. Herbert Schwartz will discuss "A Star is Born" and show a video titled "The Creation of the Universe," Drake Municipal Observatory, Waveland Park, 8 p.m.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8

  • Drake football vs. St. Ambrose, Drake Stadium, 1 p.m.
  • Drake volleyball vs. Southeast Missouri State, Drake Knapp Center, 5 p.m.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 10

  • Informational meeting for volunteers interested in reading books onto tape, Student Disability Services, Health Center, 7 p.m.

  • Historian and author Michael Luick-Thrams will present "Safe Haven in Iowa: The Scattergood Hostel and Refugees from the Holocaust," Bulldog Theater, 8 p.m.

  • Ceremony marking the renaming of Pharmacy and Science Hall in honor of Morgan Cline, PH'53, Pharmacy and Science Hall, 12:15 p.m.
  • Fall Faculty/Staff Convocation, Sheslow Auditorium, 2 p.m.
  • Dedication of Cowles Library Reading Room, 3 p.m.
  • Herbert Schwartz will discuss "Our Sun" and show a video titled "The Sun," Drake Municipal Observatory, Waveland Park, 8 p.m.

  • Learn about the Drake budget at one of two town meetings, Bulldog Theater, Olmsted Center, 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Stalnaker Lecture by sociology professor R. Dean Wright, Sheslow Auditorium, 7 p.m. The lecture is titled "Discovering Homelessness: Teaching, Scholarship and the Real World."

FRIDAY, SEPT. 21

  • Parent/Family Weekend. Model suite open in Goodwin-Kirk Hall.
