June Johnson, vice chair and
associate professor of pharmacy practice, gave a
presentation on "Foot Care in the Diabetic Patient" at the third annual
Diabetes Update sponsored by Drake and the Iowa Pharmacy Association on Oct.
5.
Beth Younger, assistant
professor of English, has had an article published in the NWSA Journal, a publication
of the National Women's Studies Association.
The article, titled "Pleasure, Pain and the Power of Being Thin: Female
Sexuality in Young Adult Literature," addresses the intersection of body
image and sexuality in adolescent literature.
Andrew Norman, assistant
professor of marketing, presented a paper titled "Exploring
the Relationship between Television Connectedness and Social Network Dynamics" at
the conference for the Association for Consumer Research on
Oct. 11 in Toronto, Canada.
Angela Battle, assistant
professor of art, recently received a juror's award for her art work in the regional
juried exhibition "Wind and Water" at
the Hearst Center for the Arts in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The exhibition will continue
through Nov. 14.
Lisa Martin-Hansen,
assistant professor of education, presented a peer-reviewed research paper at
the North Central Association for the Education of Teachers
of Science meeting held Oct. 3 in Rochester, Minn. Her paper was titled "Conceptual
Change in First Year Students' Understandings of the Nature of Science."
Ramesh Dhussa, assistant
professor of geography, chaired a paper session titled "Health
and Hazard" at the Great Plains/Rocky Mountain
Division of the Association of American Geographers' annual meeting held Oct.
2-4 at Kansas State
University, Manhattan, Kan.
Thomas Westbrook, professor of leadership and adult development, is teaching
the 10th section of Situational Leadership Plus, a Drake/Principal Financial
Group non-credit Web course. There are now 180 graduates of the course.
Birgit Wassmuth,
professor of advertising, published a book chapter on "Nachrichtenbilder
und deren Vertextlichung in Online Medien" (Accessibility of news photos
in online media) in Authentizität und Inszenierung von Bilderwelten
(Authenticity and Manufacturing of Visual Images), edited by Thomas Knieper and
Marion Mueller,
Cologne, Germany: Herbert Von Halen. The chapter was co-authored with David Thompson
of Loras
College.
Monica Lihs, a program assistant in the athletics department, completed the Chicago
Marathon on Oct. 12 and qualified for the Boston Marathon.
In August, Matthew
Doré, professor of law, was appointed chair of the
Iowa Supreme Court's nine-member Commission on Continuing Legal Education. He
has been a member of the commission since 1999.
