Melissa H. Weresh, associate professor of legal writing, presented two articles
at the Central Region Legal Writing Conference on Sept. 13 in St. Louis. The
first presentation focused on unpublished judicial decisions while the second
focused on legal scholarship.
Sidney Finn, associate professor of pharmaceutics, and John Rovers, associate
professor of pharmacy and health sciences, have been elected to leadership positions
within the American Pharmacy Association's Academy of Pharmaceutical Research
and Science for 2004-05. Finn is chair-elect of the Section on Basic Pharmaceutical
Sciences. Rovers is chair-elect of the Section on Clinical Sciences.
Robert Hariman,
the Ellis and Nelle Levitt professor of rhetoric and vice provost for interdisciplinary
studies, has published a review of Nola Heidlebaugh's book,
Judgment, Rhetoric, and the Problem of
Incommensurability: Recalling
Practical Wisdom, in the Review of Communication.
Nicholas Roth, assistant professor of piano, gave a solo recital in Milwaukee
on Oct. 10 and performed Beethoven's Piano Concert No. 5 with the Drake Symphony
Orchestra on Oct. 25. He also participated in a chamber music concert Thursday,
Nov. 6, at the Wausau Conservatory of Music in Wausau, Wis.
Linda Krypel, associate
professor of pharmacy practice, has received continued funding of $64,500 from
Procter & Gamble for editorship of the Nonprescription
Medicines Academy Web site. The site (www.nmafaculty.org) is designed to help
faculty who teach about nonprescription medicines. Krypel also made a poster
presentation with Kim Plake, assistant professor of social and administrative
sciences, and Tanya Wilhite, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, at the
American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy annual meeting in July. The poster
was titled "Implementation of a Nonprescription Medication Use Service:
The Student Experience."
Jack Gerlovich, professor
of education, and Rahul Parsa, professor of statistics, made an invited presentation
at the Iowa Science Teachers Annual Convention on
Oct. 16. The presentation, titled "A National Science Safety Indexing Project," outlined
a national study that these professors are initiating a science safety census
of all U.S. science teachers with the help of National Science Teachers Association
and the Council of State Science Supervisors.
Richard Sheehy, assistant
professor of counselor education, has had his article
titled "Effects of Stress Inoculation Training for First-Year Law Students" accepted
for publication in the February 2004 edition of
International Journal of Stress Management, a journal published by the American
Psychological Association. He also gave a talk on stress management to employees
of the Iowa Bureau of Family Health and Child Health Specialty Clinics.
