Pre-OT Admission

Students can be admitted to the pre-OT track directly from high school, so you should plan to apply during the fall of your senior year.  To apply for pre-OT for the fall 2016 semester, you should complete an application for admission from Drake University's Office of Admission.  In order to be considered for pre-OT, you must list pre-OT as your primary major on the application along with a secondary major in case you are not admitted to the program.  There are no official GPA or test score requirements for the pre-OT track, although applicants are required to submit test scores from either the ACT or SAT.  Competitive applicants take a rigorous and challenging curriculum throughout high school and demonstrate leadership and involvement both inside and outside the classroom.

It is important to remember that completing the pre-OT track does not guarantee admission into the professional Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) program.  The pre-OT track includes several benefits that will help to enhance their application to the professional program.  These benefits include

  • Full consideration for admission to Drake's professional OTD program in the final year of completing the Bachelor's of Science in Health Sciences degree
  • An Occupational Therapy faculty mentor/adviser and the Office of Academic and Student Affairs that will provide resources and support for students as they complete their bachelor's degree
  • Opportunities to pursue membership in professional student organizations, providing the chance to network with fellow students at Drake and across the state and country
  • Opportunities for shadowing in an OT environment and career exploration through the Issues in Health Sciences course series
