August is an exciting time around campus as we prepare to welcome our new and returning students. We have two big annual events that take place this time of year that we would like to highlight.
The first one is Welcome Weekend, especially designed for new incoming Bulldogs. The activities begin on the evening of Wednesday, August 24, 2016; parents/guardians should be prepared to return home on Wednesday after getting students settled in their new Drake environment.Welcome Weekend consists of four intense days of student, faculty, and staff interactions with a focus on:
Your student’s Welcome Weekend and fall semester experience will be enhanced by interactions with your Peer Mentor/Academic Consultant (PMAC). Peer Mentor/Academic Consultants are upper-class student volunteers assigned to First Year Seminar (FYS) groups. Based on research findings and past experiences, we believe peer-to-peer interaction with an emphasis on students' academic success and personal development is particularly important to overall growth during the first year in college. PMACs will continue to serve as a resource and motivator throughout the fall semester.
The next event is Parents & Family Weekend, which takes place September 23 – 25. A Drake education involves more than just learning in a classroom. It's about experiencing everything the campus has to offer, from athletics and the arts to clubs and activities. Each year we welcome the extended Bulldog family for a taste of the life their students are experiencing. Join in, and enjoy!
