Brad Crowell is Associate Professor of Religion at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He received is Ph.D. in Ancient Near Eastern Studies and the Hebrew Bible from the University of Michigan. He regularly teaches courses on World Religions, the Life of Jesus, and Apocalyptic influences in America. His research interests imperial influences on the literature of the Hebrew Bible and the application of postcolonial theory to ancient texts and cultures.

Dr. Crowell has published in the leading journals for the study of ancient Israel and the Hebrew Bible including the Journal for Ancient Near Eastern Religions, The Bulletin for the American Society of Oriental Research, Zeitschrift für die alttestamentliche Wissenschaft, Currents in Research Biblical Studies, and Biblical Interpretation. He is also the co-editor of Excavation Asian History: Interdisciplinary Studies in Archaeology and History with Norman Yoffee. Dr. Crowell is also the author of the book, Edom at the Edge of Empire A Social and Political History.  He is increasingly interested in the intersection of religion and politics, both ancient and modern.
