Specialist in Education with Literacy Emphasis

The Specialist in Education with an emphasis in Literacy is a post-masters program that prepares students for leadership within the field of literacy education/  

This degree requires 30-credit hours, consisting of nine credit hours of core courses and 21 credit hours of advisor approved, programmatic electives.

Versatility Students work closely with a program advisor in order to select courses that best fit their needs and goals. Several course options are available within each emphasis area.

Face-to-face Instruction Students learn from Drake faculty members who are experienced leaders and experts in their fields.

Technology Enhanced Courses feature hybrid learning, with web-based activities and discussions supplementing face-to-face weekend classes. Some courses may be offered fully online.

Convenient scheduling Classes are designed to meet the needs of working adults. They are during the evening or on weekends.

Application Details

  • Applications are reviewed on an on-going basis; therefore, it is requested that all materials be submitted approximately 8 weeks prior to the beginning of the intended start-term.
  • Upon the receipt of transcripts, an advisor will complete a transcript evaluation in order to determine any credit or course substitutions/transfers.
