Alternative Fall Break

Consider staying on campus during Fall Break to better understand the needs of the Des Moines community and how you can make a difference!  Through service-learning and social justice projects, you are able to explore the off-campus community that you impact as a student!

Come to the information meeting for Alternative Fall Break Through: A Plunge into Des Moines on September 13th from 3:00PM to 4:00PM in the Drake Room in upper Olmsted.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday will be filled with various activities and exercises that will expose you to different cultures, places, values, and people of Des Moines, including various volunteer opportunities and community exploration.

Service-learning, social justice, and exploration of the Des Moines community will be the focus of this exciting five day program. Throughout the course of the event, issues relating to social justice will be emphasized through readings, discussion, and reflection. Costs are minimal ($20) and includes service to Des Moines, community exploration, reflection booklet, transportation, and select meals. Don’t let money stop you from applying; scholarships are available.
