Office for Sexual Violence Response and Healthy Relationship Promotion (OFSVR)- Drake Mission Statement

The Office for Sexual Violence Response and Healthy Relationship Promotion is dedicated to the development, support and enhancement of creative prevention and effective intervention initiatives, which will attribute to the reduction of gender violence on campus. This office empowers students in their integrated learning experiences to foster personal and professional growth. Direct participation in this office’s services allows students to be knowledgeable on campus and community resources for victim interventions, while participating in the office’s programs allows students to explore the Division of Student Life tenets of Civic Engagement, Social Justice, Cognitive Complexity, Interpersonal and Intrapersonal Competence. 

 

 

OFSVR Drake Learning Outcomes

Cognitive Complexity

  1. Develop a sense of personal growth and development through knowledge of social justice issues related to gender violence.
  2. Understand the importance of civic engagement and the impact of working with others who have different life experiences.
  3. Advocate on issues related to the prevention of gender violence in a variety of capacities.

Intrapersonal/ Interpersonal Competence

  1. Work for self-empowerment and self-advocacy needs.
  2. Build individuals capacities toward the commitment to ethical behavior.
  3. Become ambassadors/mentors for healthy relationship promotion amongst peers.

Civic Engagement and Social Justice

  1. Work collaboratively as a team member in multiple professional and/or academic settings.
  2. Develop awareness and active participation in community systems responses that attribute to social justice of individuals and communities.

Anti-Violence Coordinating Council

Drake University Anti-Violence Coordinating Council (AVCC) Mission and Vision:

The Drake University Anti-Violence Coordinating Council will develop, support and enhance creative prevention and effective intervention initiatives, which will attribute to the reduction of gender violence on campus.

AVCC Functions:

  • Act as a support mechanism for inventorying and supporting anti-violence initiatives across campus
  • Advocate on issues related to the prevention of gender violence in a variety of capacities and strive to institutionalize efforts
  • Review and suggest policies and/or protocols related to gender violence response
  • Provide oversight and input on effective strategies of preventing gender violence on campus
