Urban Plains, an innovative multimedia website by Drake University seniors, nabbed top honors in the 2015 national journalism educators’ awards contest.


  • First place in the large group category of the Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts Interactive Multimedia competition, for the second year in a row, for Urban Plains
  • Three Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker awards, the top award in college journalism, for Drake Magazine, Urban Plains and the Annual, plus three other awards for writing and design
  • PR News national Student of the Year and honorable mention for Intern of the Year
  • Top 10 finish in the national Hearst feature writing contest
  • Nine awards in the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication contest, including best website for Urban Plains and general excellence in magazines for Drake Magazine
  • Three Women in Communications Clarion Awards, including first place in the professional Community Relations category for the public relations senior capstone project for Manning, Iowa
  • Five national College Media Association Pinnacle awards for writing and design, including second place for feature magazine of the year
