Talented and Gifted Endorsement

Program Details

An award-winning curriculum and innovative use of technology make Drake's Talented and Gifted (TAG) Endorsement vital for anyone working with gifted students.  Throughout the online 12-credit hour preparation program - which is based on National Association for Gifted Children standards - knowledgeable faculty provide a comprehensive framework for educators, consultants, and coordinators of K-12 gifted education courses and parents of gifted students. This endorsement is fully approved by the Iowa Department of Education.

Program Options

Endorsement Only

For the TAG endorsement, students can choose from the 19 hours offered at Drake University with up to 6 transfer hours.  Students must take at least one course from each of the four content areas:

  • Psychology of the Gifted
  • Programming for the Gifted
  • Administration and Supervision of Gifted Programs
  • Practicum Experience

Each case is different and therefore, an individual transcript review will be completed after admission.

Endorsement with Degree

Students can complete the TAG endorsement as part of the MSE degree in Teacher Effectiveness and Professional Development. Core courses for this program are offered on campus and students may transfer in the 12 TAG endorsement hours toward the 32-hour masters degree program. Contact Thalya Hanson for information on this program.

Coursework

Students must have coursework from each of the areas identified above and a total of 12 hours for Drake University to recommend a student to the Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE). All TAG courses are offered online.
