On Sept. 19, over 200 Iowa teachers, consultants and administrators gathered in Parent's Hall on Drake University's campus for a literacy conference. The workshop leader was University of Michigan professor Nell K. Duke noted for her most recent work on implementing the National Core literacy curriculum for K-3 teachers.
Participants received a copy of her text "Inside Information: Developing Powerful Readers and Writers of Informational Text Through Project-Based Instruction"
The event was sponsored by the Iowa chapter of ASCD, the Association for School Curriculum Development. School of Education Professor Elaine Smith-Bright serves on the Iowa ASCD board of directors responsible for the event. Administrative Assistant Bridget Arrasmith managed the registration of this successful Drake event.
