STEM Opportunities at Drake

Have you ever considered where an education in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) could take you?  How about into the rainforests of Latin America, researching wildlife biodiversity? To the White House, consulting on the country’s adoption of health information technology? Inside a lab, collaborating with top scientific minds to test new therapies for cancer? Or to the U.S. Patent Office, where your name is attached to an innovative new insurance product? Drake graduates have already accomplished these things and much more.

The world is changing quickly—new technology, bold scientific advances, and creative ways to use data. Today there’s a critical need for professionals in key STEM disciplines, and that need is only growing. A Drake education in STEM can give you the academic knowledge, the preparation, the real-world experiences, and the connections to take your talents and skills to some incredibly exciting places—the ground floor of emerging fields with sought-after, high-growth careers.

Learn From One of the Best

In 2012, Iowa’s governor selected Drake as a regional hub for STEM education and economic development. As a result, Drake and its students are engaged in bringing outstanding STEM offerings and events to K-12 students across the state. Drake students also serve as mentors for Drake’s new STEM Explorers program, which provides guidance, support, scholarships, and employment opportunities for local, high-potential high schoolers with financial need.

Soon Drake students in STEM fields will learn, research, and collaborate in new, state-of-the-art spaces. Launched in 2014, new construction and renovation are creating an interconnecting $65-million STEM@DRAKE complex that brings together science, technology, education, and math departments in a collaborative learning environment. With these new spaces comes new opportunity—Drake is adding new STEM majors at the undergraduate and graduate levels, some available in Fall 2015.
