Registration for Non-Drake Students

Individuals who would like to register for a class at Drake but are not interested in pursuing a degree must contact the Office of Student Records.  Formal admission into the university may not be necessary.

Eligibility

Please view the admission requirements in the Drake catalog if you meet any of the following criteria:

  • You belong to a different institution and intend to take a limited number of Drake classes to transfer back to your home institution.  Follow the procedure below.
  • You are a lifelong learner and wish to enroll in a limited number of classes but do not intend to pursue a degree from Drake.  Follow the procedure below.
  • You attended Drake in the past, then left the university, and now wish to re-enroll in a degree program:  Visit the Request for Re-enrollment page to initiate the re-enrollment process.
  • You are a high-school-aged student who wishes to earn college credit through Drake.
    • Visit the Post Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) page to determine whether you are eligible for financial assistance.
    • All high-school-aged students, regardless of PSEO eligibility, must meet the PSEO criteria to enroll at Drake.
    • Eligible high-school students wishing to enroll through the PSEO should follow the procedure on the Office of Admissions page.
    • Eligible high-school students who wish to enroll but decline the PSEO should contact the Student Records Office for registration assistance.
  • You have already earned a degree from Drake and wish to re-enroll in classes: Contact the Office of Admissions to determine whether you will be required to re-apply for admission.
  • You are an educator interested in registering for distance education courses to meet your professional development needs:  Visit the Extension Education page for more information.
  • You are a senior citizen who wants to audit a class at a discounted tuition rate.  Visit the academic policies page for more information, and then follow the procedure below.

Procedure

This procedure is intended only for individuals who have not been admitted to a degree program at Drake University.  Current Drake students should register for classes via Blueview.  Registration priority will be given to current Drake students.  Attempts to register non-Drake students will occur no earlier than the date listed at the bottom of the registration times page.  This procedure does not guarantee enrollment. 

  1. Determine the class(es) you wish to take.  The schedule of classes is available via the Quick Links menu on the www.drake.edu home page.
  2. Download the Request for Registration form.  Be prepared to list the following information on the form:
    • Biographical and contact information - A Drake ID number must be created for you.
      • Full name
      • Address
      • Phone number
      • Email
      • Birth date
      • Social Security number
    • Your history at Drake, if applicable.
      • Have you ever attended Drake?
      • Have you ever applied to Drake?
    • A summary of your scholastic background, including high schools and colleges that you have attended.
    • The subject, course, and course registration number (CRN) of the class(es) in which you are interested.
      • List alternate sections in case your first choice is unavailable.
      • Classes for which prerequisites or other registration restrictions exist requires special approval from the instructor of the class.
      • You can find the subject, course, and CRN information on the schedule of classes page.
  3. Submit the Request for Registration form to the Student Records Office. 
    • Return information (fax number, mailing address) is listed at the bottom of the form.
    • Submitting the form does not guarantee enrollment.
    • Do not submit this form unless you agree to abide by all Drake University policies and procedures, including deadlines and procedures for fee payment and adding and dropping classes. Such information can be found on the Student Records and Student Accounts areas of the Drake home page, www.drake.edu.
  4. Await a response from a Student Records staff member.
    • Allow up to five business days for processing the request.
    • Registration also depends on seat availability.
    • Depending on your background and the specifics of the class, you may be asked to provide more detailed information and/or speak to representatives of the department or college to which the class belongs before being allowed to register.
    • You will receive an email at the address you provide on the Request for Registration form.
      • If registration was successful, the email will contain more detailed information and a document that lists your next steps.
      • If more information is needed before registration can proceed, this email will request such information.
