New Study Abroad Financial Model

A new study abroad financial model was passed for students going on an affiliate semester-long program. The new financial model will go into effect for the fall 2018 semester.

Students will pay Drake tuition, and receive 100 percent of their Drake scholarships, grants, and loans. Students will pay non-tuition fees (housing, excursions, and possibly meals if included, etc.) at the rate charged by the partner. Students are required to select a Drake-approved semester study abroad program. To see the current list of approved programs, you can search Drake International's programs in Terra Dotta.

Exchange programs and short-term Drake programs (such as J-Term programs) are not impacted by the new financial model.

For questions, please contact Drake's Education Abroad Advisor.

Getting Started

If you are interested in studying, interning, volunteering, or teaching abroad, the first step is to view Education Abroad 101, which is a 15 minute online presentation. You can access the presentation by logging in with your Drake ID number and password.

After viewing Education Abroad 101 you can find the right program by using our program search.

Students joining a Drake faculty-led program (indicated in the program search by having a star before the program name) should speak with the Drake International office or the program's faculty leader to learn more about the program.

Students interested in a semester, summer, or J-term Exchange and Affiliate program are required to make an appointment with our office to go over the application process. All students applying to an exchange or affiliate program must apply through the Drake International program search, and be approved to study abroad by Drake, before applying to the exchange or affiliate partner program.
