Saturday August 27th 

  • Optional Q&A with directors at 9:30 a.m. – anyone just finding out about auditions who wants to audition should attend this meeting, as well as all first year students.
  • Auditions start at 10:00 a.m.
  • Auditions are open to any Drake student regardless of major

Auditions are timed

If auditioning for musicals and the plays:
REQUIRED for BFA Musical Theatre Majors and any BFA Acting, Directing or Theatre Ed Major that is also a MT Minor that are available for casting both semesters.

  • 2 ½ minutes total- one contemporary song in the style of Heathers, one contemporary song in the style of See Rock City and other Destinations, and one contemporary dramatic monologue

If auditioning for plays only:
REQUIRED for BFA Acting, Directing and Theatre Ed Majors that are not also MT minors

  •  90 seconds total- one contemporary dramatic monologue

If auditioning for both of the musicals only:
only an option for minors or non-BFA Performance majors only

  • 90 seconds total- one contemporary song in the style of Heathers and one contemporary song in the style of See Rock City and other Destinations

If auditioning one musical only:
only an option for minors or non-BFA Performance majors only

  • 1 minute total- if auditioning for Heathers , one contemporary song in the style of the show or if auditioning for See Rock City and other Destinations, one contemporary song in the style of the show

Pick material that is right for the shows and characters you are interested in.
Do not perform a song or monologue from the shows.

To audition for the Drake Department of Theatre Arts 2016-2017 Productions, please email Karla Kash for an audition time slot before 12:00 p.m. on Friday August 26th at karla.kash@drake.edu. If you are a BFA major, you are pre-assigned an audition time.

If you are not a BFA Theatre Major and find out about the auditions later than 12:00 p.m. on Friday August 28th you can still attend the auditions. Just attend the 9:30 a.m. meeting on Saturday August 29th and we can sign you up for a time then.

Tuesday August 30th

Faculty will meet to cast the shows and Doubt will start rehearsal that night.
5:00-6:00- Department of Theatre Arts meeting for all Theatre Majors and students interested in theatre, REQUIRED for all BA and BFA Theatre Majors.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Everyone must make himself or herself available for rehearsal for Doubt that will start on the evening of August 30th. That means if you have a job in the evenings, on or off campus, you cannot work in the evenings that week in case you are cast in Doubt.
  • If you are auditioning, regardless if you are a BFA Theatre Performance Major or not, you MUST accept any role you are cast in. If you are not willing to do this, then please do not audition.‌
