  • Optional Q&A with directors at 9:30 a.m. – all first-year students and anyone just finding out about auditions who wants to audition should attend this meeting.
  • Auditions start at 10:00 a.m.
  • Auditions are open to any Drake student regardless of major.

Auditions are timed

If auditioning for musicals and the plays:
REQUIRED for BFA Musical Theatre Majors and any BFA Performance Major who is also a MT Minor

  • 2 minutes total, 1 rock/folk song in the style of Jesus Christ Superstar (both musical theatre and popular music are acceptable) and 1 musical theatre song in the style of A Man of No Importance, and
  • 2 contrasting monologues in the styles of the plays

If auditioning for plays only:
REQUIRED for BFA Acting and Directing Majors who are not also MT minors and available for minors or non-BFA Theatre majors as well

  • 90 seconds for 2 contrasting monologues in the style of the plays

If auditioning for both of the musicals only:
Only an option for minors or non-BFA Theatre majors

  • 90 seconds. 1 rock/pop song in the style of Jesus Christ Superstar (both musical theatre and popular music are acceptable), and 1 musical theatre song in the style of A Man of No Importance.

If auditioning one musical only:
Only an option for minors or non-BFA Theatre majors

  • 60 seconds. If for Jesus Christ Superstar, a rock/pop song in the style of the show (both musical theatre and popular music are acceptable). If for A Man of No Importance, a musical theatre song in the style of the show. Please be sure to mark on audition form for which musical you are auditioning.

Pick material that is right for the shows and characters you are interested in.
Do not perform a song or monologue from the shows.

To audition for the Department of Theatre Arts 2014-2015 Productions, please email Megan Martin for an audition time slot starting August 4th and before 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22nd. If you are a BFA major, you are pre-assigned an audition time and do not need to email Megan for an audition time.

All students need to submit their completed audition forms by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22nd. You can download the form here: 2014-2015 Season Audition Form

If you are not a BFA Theatre Major and find out about the auditions later than 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22nd you can still attend the auditions. Just attend the 9:30 a.m. meeting on Saturday, August 23rd and we can sign you up for a time then.

Saturday, August 23rd
4:00-7:00 p.m. - callbacks for Square One
7:00-10:00 p.m. - callbacks for A Flea in Her Ear

Sunday, August 24th
2:00-6:00 p.m. - callbacks for A Man of No Importance
All first year Musical Theatre Majors and Minors are REQUIRED to observe the callbacks for the musicals

7:00-10:00 p.m. - callbacks for The American Plan

Monday, August 25th
6:00-10:00 p.m. - callbacks for Jesus Christ Superstar
All first year Musical Theatre Majors and Minors are REQUIRED to observe the callbacks for the musicals

Tuesday, August 26th
Faculty will meet to cast the shows and Square One will start rehearsal that night.
5:00-6:00 p.m. - Department of Theatre Arts meeting for all Theatre Majors and students interested in theatre

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Everyone must make himself or herself available for rehearsal for Square One that will start on the evening of Tuesday, August 26th. That means if you have a job in the evenings, on or off campus, you cannot work in the evenings that week in case you are cast in Square One.
  • If you are auditioning, regardless if you are a BFA Theatre Performance Major or not, you MUST accept any role in which you are cast. If you are not willing to do this, then please do not audition.‌
