Saturday August 29th

  • Optional Q&A with directors at 9:30 a.m. – anyone just finding out about auditions that wants to auditions should attend this meeting as well as all first year students.
  • Auditions start at 10:00 a.m.
  • Auditions are open to any Drake student regardless of major

Auditions are timed

If auditioning for musicals and the plays:
REQUIRED for BFA Musical Theatre Majors and any BFA Acting or Directing Major that is also a MT Minor

  • 3 minutes total, 1 classical musical theatre song, 1 contemporary musical theatre song, 1 contemporary monologue and 1 Shakespeare monologue in verse

If auditioning for plays only:
REQUIRED for BFA Acting and Directing Majors that are not also MT minors

  •  2 minutes total, 1 contemporary monologue and 1 Shakespeare monologue in verse

If auditioning for both of the musicals only:
only an option for minors or non-BFA Performance majors only

  • 2 minutes total, 1 classical musical theatre song, 1 contemporary musical theatre song

If auditioning one musical only:
only an option for minors or non-BFA Performance majors only

  • 1 minute total, if auditioning for Fiorello, 1 classical musical theatre song, if auditioning for The Wild Party, 1 contemporary musical theatre song

Pick material that is right for the shows and characters you are interested in.
Do not perform a song or monologue from the shows.

To audition for the Drake Department of Theatre Arts 2015-2016 Productions, please email Karla Kash for an audition time slot before 12:00 p.m. on Friday August 28th.  If you are a BFA major, you are pre-assigned an audition time.

Download the Audition Form 2015-2016 Revised, and email all the directors your completed audition form by to 12:00 p.m. on Friday August 28th.

 If you are not a BFA Theatre Major and find out about the auditions later than 12:00 p.m. on Friday August 28th you can still attend the auditions. Just attend the 9:30 a.m. meeting on Saturday August 29th and we can sign you up for a time then.

All first year Musical Theatre Majors and Minors and anyone taking Musical Theatre I are REQUIRED to observe the callbacks for the musicals
Monday August 31st
 
6:00- 10:00 p.m.- callbacks for The Wild Party
All first year Musical Theatre Majors and Minors and anyone taking Musical Theatre I are REQUIRED to observe the callbacks for the musicals
Tuesday September 1st

Faculty will meet to cast the shows and Blood Wedding will start rehearsal that night.
5:00-6:00- Department of Theatre Arts meeting for all Theatre Majors and students interested in theatre, REQUIRED for all BA and BFA Theatre Majors.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • In case you are cast in Blood Wedding, ALL Auditionees MUST be available for evening rehearsals that begin on Tuesday September 1st.   That means if you have a job in the evenings, on or off campus, you cannot work that week.
  • If you are auditioning, regardless if you are a BFA Theatre Performance Major or not, you MUST accept any role you are cast in. If you are not willing to do this, then please do not audition.‌

Zenith Chamber Music Festival features free, daily performances at four locations in Des Moines. Zenith is scheduled for August 18-21 and is hosted by Drake University.
