A Drake committee reviewed several online programs to make a final decision on utilizing Haven. Haven has also been the product of choice in many Iowa institutions of higher education—delivering positive student user feedback—which will position us for uniformity across the state. Haven was designed with undergraduates in mind. Haven Plus is similar to Haven, however uses scenarios and content customized to graduate and professional students.
Haven promotes student health and safety by educating students about the elements of healthy relationships, the importance of sexual consent, and the role of bystanders in creating safe, healthy communities. Haven is a science-based prevention program that offers a confidential, personalized experience for each student, educating them on the issues associated with sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking while also taking into account their unique perspectives and experiences. Haven provides:
Please be aware that this program contains situations that involve various types of interpersonal violence, including, and not limited to: sexual harassment, stalking, dating violence, and sexual assault, which may invoke an emotional response. If during the course of completing this program you experience any distress, we encourage you to seek support. If you would like confidential support, a Violence Intervention Partner (VIP) peer-based crisis advocate is available 24 hours a day by calling or texting 515-512-2972, or you can make an appointment with the Counseling Center at 515-271-3864.
If you should need to request in exemption for completing this module due to potential distress, please contact Diane Eischeid, University Counselor, by emailing email@example.com.
Haven offers special features to meet individual student needs, including audio/visual options for students that would like the program to run with captions or spoken options for ease of usage. Scenarios are not specific to any particular culture and illustrate a variety of relationships. Haven also offers a variety of ways that people with different personal attributes might react to those scenarios.
All incoming undergraduate Drake students (spring ’17, summer '17, and fall ’17) are required to complete Haven. All incoming graduate and professional students (spring '17, summer '17, and fall '17) are required to complete Haven Plus. A hold will be placed on your account, which will prevent course registration for the subsequent semester, until Part I of Haven or Haven Plus has been completed. Please complete the mandatory portion, Part 1, by Oct. 6, 2017. Holds will be removed Monday through Friday and may take 24-48 hours to be removed.
After you’ve logged into EverFi and go into Haven, you will navigate through modules via the following screen.
Haven modules in Part 1:
After you complete Part I, you should see the screen below, telling you that you are in “intersession.” You will also see this screen if you log back into Haven during the 45-day waiting period between completing the post-quiz (Part 1) and accessing the follow-up survey (Part 2).
Haven Completion Screen:
After completing Part 1, you will receive an email inviting you to complete Part 2, which can be taken 45 days after completion of Part 1. Part 2 takes about 15 minutes, and is NOT required. This post survey will help us gather data on what you thought of the program and measure retention of knowledge.
If you choose to take Part 2, it may be completed at any time before the end of the Fall 2016 semester. Students who complete Part 2 by finals week of the fall semester will be entered in a drawing for a gift card for merchandise at the University Bookstore.
Part 1 is the only section attached to spring registration; Part 2 is not required. However, participating is extremely valuable—it includes climate feedback, which will help Drake develop better initiatives surrounding sexual and interpersonal violence on campus.
Used at more than 200 colleges and universities across the country, this program will enable the University to gather valuable data about our students for comparison with others institutions. This will be shared with campus stakeholders to improve sexual and interpersonal violence prevention initiatives at Drake. The course includes surveys to help personalize your experience and measure students’ attitudes and behaviors.
All survey responses for Part 1 are confidential. The results are kept by Everfi and are sent to Drake’s administrator of the program in aggregate format, without identifying information and individual student responses.
You will not need any prior materials before starting the Havenprogram.
Should you experience problems, technical support is available 24/7 and can be accessed from the “Help” link within the course. The Drake staff is not available to assist with problems within the program.
