Drake University is in Des Moines, Iowa's capital and largest city. Conveniently located at the intersection of interstates 35 and 80, Des Moines is an easy drive from several major cities, including Chicago, Kansas City, Minneapolis and Omaha. The Des Moines International Airport, which is served by several major airlines, is only a 15-minute drive from campus. The Greyhound bus station is approximately five minutes from campus.
May 30–Aug. 30: The main exit to Drake University, 31st Street, is getting a summer makeover and will be closed May 30 through Aug. 30. Follow the recommended driving directions to avoid the construction area.
At the northeast edge of Des Moines, I-80 and I-35 join and go west around the city while I-235 goes through Des Moines. Due to the closure of the 31st Street exit, take I-235 west for about six miles and follow the detour signs to Exit 7: MLK Jr Pkwy/19th St. Take the MLK Jr Pkwy/19th St. exit and keep left at the fork in the ramp. Turn right (north) onto 19th Street. Then take the second left onto University Avenue. Travel approximately one mile on University Avenue until you reach Drake’s campus.
At the southwest edge of Des Moines, I-80 and I-35 join and go east around the city while I-235 goes through Des Moines. Due to the closure of the 31st Street exit, there are two alternate routes available.
Orientation and Bulldog Days of Summer: Reserved parking is located on the south side of the Olmsted Center lot. Cole Hall, Office of Admission, is located one block east of the parking lot.
Individual visit (Monday—Friday): Reserved parking is available in the admission lot (Lot 8) at the corner of 27th Street and University Avenue (south side of University). Cole Hall, Office of Admission, is located across the street (north side of University).
May 30–Aug. 30 the main exit to Drake University, 31st Street, is closed for construction.
