Volunteer Opportunities

Drake desires to work reciprocally with local neighborhoods and community organizations. Annually, Drake partners with over 100 community agencies and schools on a variety of projects from lunch hour reading programs with kids at King elementary to building houses with Habitat for Humanity. Whatever your interest there is an opportunity for you to get involved! Click here to see what current volunteer opportunities are available.

Drake Sponsored Community Events
Over the course of the year Drake University sponsors and supports multiple community-wide events such as the Iowa State Fair, Principal Charity Classic and Juneteenth to name a few. Each of these events requires the assistance of faculty, staff, student, alumni and friends of the university who are willing and eager to represent Drake to the community. Previous experience or an all encompassing understanding of the university is not required, except for the Iowa State Fair. See opportunities below.

The Ronald McDonald House and Charities works to provide resources for families experiencing hardships in health care costs for children experiencing illness. Helping a sick child fight their illness takes a big enough emotional toll on a family. Adding a financial strain can make it all almost too much to bear. Examples of RMHC coverage includes providing housing near a hospitalized child, covering expenses of staying together in another city, or necessities like medical and dental care. Since 1974, RMHC has helped address these needs every day, through the work of volunteers and staff members and connections with medical communities around the world.

This volunteer opportunity is open to all Drake students, faculty, and staff. Please feel free to reach out with questions to Gabriella Gugliotta at gabriella.gugliotta@drake.edu.

Service Opportunities with Community Partners

Whether you are looking for a one-time opportunity to serve a local organization or looking to make an on-going deeper commitment to an organization or cause you are passionate about we can connect you. Community partners rely on the consistency of regular on-going volunteers to sustain their work. Opportunities to serve one time, for one semester or an entire year exist. Many volunteer opportunities offer flexibility to choose the days and times that work best for you!  Whether you are looking to volunteer as an individual or with a group of friends or colleagues, these one-time events allow you a short-term opportunity to give back to the community and fulfill volunteer needs of local organizations. Can't find what you're looking for? Please email drakeservicecab@gmail.com to talk through your interests and find an opportunity that's right for you.
