Important Welcome Weekend Information for Parents

Since Welcome Weekend is for students and the activities begin on Wednesday evening, parents/guardians should be prepared to return home on Wednesday after getting students settled in their new environment.

Move-In and Residence Hall Meetings
Students living on campus are encouraged to move into the residence halls on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Residence Hall floor meetings will be held at 7:00 p.m. that evening. This meeting will serve as the student's first chance to get to know their resident assistant (RA), other students on their floor, and their FYS group. Students will also discuss important information about being a member of a residential community.

Meals
Students are on their own for meals until their meal plan goes into effect on Thursday, August 21, at 11:00 a.m. Hubbell Dining Hall will be open for lunch and dinner on Wednesday, August 20, and for breakfast on Thursday, August 21, on a cash payment basis until the meal plan goes into effect. Welcome Weekend meals will be provided for new students living off campus. Commuter students should contact their PMAC to obtain tickets for meals.

Commuter Student Meeting
Students not living in the residence halls will meet Wednesday, August 20, at 7:00 p.m. in the Olmsted Center. During this time students will have an opportunity to meet other students living off campus and learn about campus resources available to them. In addition to meeting other commuter students, they will connect with students in their FYS group. They will also learn where to meet their PMAC on Thursday, August 21.

Cannot attend?
If your student is unable to move into the residence hall on Wednesday or attend part or all of Welcome Weekend activities, please notify the Office of the Provost (515-271-2835). We will inform your student's PMAC and arrangements can be made to meet your student when he/she arrives on campus. In addition, your student's college or school will be contacted if he/she will not be in attendance at the college/school meeting on Thursday, August 21.
