Welcome Transfer Students and Adult Learners

Students who have previously transferred to Drake have indicated that the New Student Program is a great opportunity to become better acclimated to campus, learn about resources and meet those individuals who are committed to students’ success.  Therefore, we have designed the Spring 2016 New Student Program to include distinct opportunities to meet your particular needs. In this program you will:

  • increase knowledge of academic policies and procedures
  • learn about resources and services that will enhance your day-to-day experiences
  • begin to partner with faculty and staff to achieve your personal and academic goals
  • build meaningful relationships other new students!

The activities planned for you will be interactive and comprehensive, but compact. We highly encourage you to participate in the full program on the following dates:

Sunday, January 24th, 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM

We ask that you register for this event by January 15, 2016. Click here to register.

Your experiences will be enhanced by interactions with Peer Mentors (PMs). These current students will be available to work with you during this program as well as throughout the spring semester. Even though Peer Mentors represent their specific college or school, they also have a great deal of general knowledge about Drake. A Peer Mentor will begin communication with you via your Drake email very soon. If you do not hear from a Peer Mentor by Monday, January 18th 2016, please email Kim Lammers at

We realize you may already have other obligations; however, becoming more knowledgeable about how things work at Drake before classes begin can be very significant in your successful transition to Drake. We hope you will take advantage of this special opportunity.

New students will be welcomed by current students, staff and administrators and have an opportunity to meet and converse during lunch.

Reality and Strategy Meeting

Students meet with academic representatives in their college or school to increase knowledge on academic policies and procedures, partner with faculty, staff, and peers, and discuss professional and personal goals.                                                               

Navigating Your New Environment: Online Resources Q-A

Each student will access and navigate online resources with the guidance of a Peer Mentor. Students will view blueView, student account tab; Blackboard; Career Blueprint, Information Technology; and other key online resources.                                                                 

2:45-3:45 pm     Interactive Panel Session                                     Sussman Theater

This interactive discussion will allow students to ask questions to a panel of diverse staff and current students to gain more information.

3:45 pm               Student ID/Campus Tour                              Lower Level, Carnegie Hall

Students will be assisted in taking their student ID photo then will depart for a campus tour led by Peer Mentors.
