Yu (Renee) Shi, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor of Operations Management

Yu joined Drake University's Zimpleman College of Business in August 2023. Prior to joining Drake, she earned a Ph.D. from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, MA. Her doctoral dissertation assesses the financial sustainability of the American banking industry using optimization modeling and machine learning. Yu's research focuses on evaluating organizational performance and productivity, identifying sources of inefficiency, and improving organizational sustainability. Some primary research methodologies she uses include data envelopment analysis (DEA), a non-parametric optimization tool, random forest, support vector machine (SVM), and Shapley Additive Explanations (SHAP) analysis. Yu has published in the European Journal of Operational Research, the Annals of Operations Research, and the Journal of the Operational Research Society.
