Educational Background: B.S., Iowa State University; M.Ed., University of North Texas

Hometown: Mitchellville, Iowa

Three interesting things about Adriana:

  1. I love to travel! I have been on study abroad trips to Spain, Germany and Brazil, as well as leisure trips to Denmark, the Netherlands, Mexico, and Panama.
  2. While I was in Amsterdam in 2011, I met John Green while he was writing The Fault In Our Stars.
  3. I am a native Iowan, but because I lived in Texas for a few years, I say “y’all” all of the time!

Why do you love Drake? I love how student-centered Drake is. Every college claims that, but I think that Drake really succeeds at it! From a faculty mentor/advisor helping you get your dream career to small class sizes to getting you into your major classes and internships right away, Drake and its faculty and staff are exceptionally committed to getting our students where they want to be.

What is your favorite thing about Des Moines? I love traveling around to the different coffee shops here in Des Moines! I spend a lot of time reading, writing, planning vacations I’ll never go on, and drinking coffee (obviously), so the atmospheres of coffee shops have always been my jam. Also, I love the accessibility and walkability of downtown Des Moines! Des Moines is just a great place to be.

Advice for prospective students: The college search process is all about finding the right fit for you. Before going on campus visits, have an idea of some characteristics your dream school would have, and make sure that university ticks off all of those boxes! College is a huge investment, and you should make sure you’re getting exactly what you want.
