Associate Professor of Practice in Public Administration/Department Chair Management and Public Administration
Dr. Allen Zagoren specializes in health care education and policy, medical and bioethics, health management and problem based learning in public administration. He holds an academic appointment of Department Chair of Management and Public Administration at Drake University and Adjunct Professor of Surgery and Nutrition at Des Moines University. He is a former Professor of Surgery and Nutrition, Assistant Dean of Research and Clinical Affairs at Western University and Associate Professor of Surgery and Nutrition at UMDNJ (Rowan University).
He completed his surgical residency in General Surgery; Trauma Surgery and Interventional Nutrition at UMDNJ/JFK University Hospital, Children’s Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (CHOP) under C. E. Koop MD, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Institute in New York.
He has served as Chief Resident at JFK and CHOP and received the Dean’s Award from PCOM and the outstanding senior resident award from CHOP. He is the former president of the Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association and was their Physician of the Year in 2000-01.
Dr. Zagoren has served as Vice Chair of the Iowa Board of Medicine and is currently an adjunct member of the board for hearing panels. He currently serves as the Medical Director of the Wound Healing Center and Wound Management Collaboration for Unity Point Health System, Des Moines; Health Policy Advisor; Medical Advisory Group- Coloplast Corp, Copenhagen, DA; Health Policy Advisor Center for Professional Studies Drake University. He is a member of Pi Alpha Alpha and fellow of The American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and the American College of Nutrition.
