Cost: $440 - 2 Semester Hours of Graduate Credit (not including the cost of the textbook)‌

Course Description
Online students will have the opportunity to learn about building and district level strategies for developing a comprehensive suicide prevention plan to include awareness, prevention, intervention, and postvention.  

Course Objectives

  • Students will understand the risk factors, protective factors, and warning signs of suicide.
  • Students will examine suicide statistics and reflect on data from their county/school.
  • Students will analyze current suicide prevention work within their building/district.
  • Students will explore and analyze the pros and cons of suicide screeners.
  • Students will develop various components of a comprehensive suicide prevention program to use in their building and district.

SYLLABUS

This course meets the State of Iowa's school district requirements for training on suicide prevention, adverse childhood experiences identification, and toxic stress response mitigation strategies. Iowa Code §279.70

This course may not run as scheduled if we do not reach our minimum number of registrations. Should this occur, all registered students will have the option of receiving a full refund OR rolling the registration over into the following semester.
