Alternative Breaks

Alternative Breaks are typically held during Fall or Spring Break as an opportunity to immerse oneself in a community, learn about social issues, and participate in the service-learning process of education, service, and reflection. 

Spring 2019 Alternative Spring Break Trip

Where: Land Between the Lakes, on the Tennessee and Kentucky Border
Dates: March 17-23, 2019
What will we do? Volunteers will help the National Recreation Area by providing trail maintenance, painting, litter clean-up and more
Purpose of the trip: To create a fun, engaging, and meaningful experience where students can meet cool people, help the environment, and travel to a different state
Cost: Thanks to funding from the Doug Allen Service Learning Travel Fund, the cost of the trip has been reduced from $300 a person to only $50!! Applicants who are accepted will be required to put a $25 non-refundable deposit down, with the remaining $25 to be due at a later date. 
What's included in the cost? Transportation via a 15-passenger van, most meals, co-ed housing, one meal out, and admission to the Golden Pond planetarium and Bison and Elk Viewing Prairie. Participants will be responsible for cost of meals during travel and free time activities, souvenirs, etc.
