Drake University is exploring partnerships with non-profit organizations to host an Engaged Citizen Corps student for the 2021-2022 academic year. Students are supported academically through the classroom, tying their service work with you into 9 credits throughout their first year at Drake.
Engaged Citizen Corps students serve approximately 8-10 hours a week throughout the academic year (250-300 hours total), and are expected to work on projects that help organizations build capacity.
Examples of past projects/tasks:
Partner agencies also have the opportunity to participate in professional development and networking opportunities with other community agencies.
The cost share for sites is $1,750 per student - an estimated value of $6,900 in human resources - which helps support student scholarships.

Who are the students?
ECC students are first-year students at Drake who have applied and been accepted to the program. The ECC attracts students of the highest academic and community accomplishments. Students who apply to the ECC have an average GPA of 3.86. ECC applicants were leaders of high school service clubs and organizations such as National Honor Society, 4H clubs, Key clubs, Student Council and some even founded organizations at their schools, such as Junior Optimist clubs, Black Student Unions, and Students Promoting Justice and Equality. They’ve gone on service trips locally and abroad, and have attended national leadership conferences and summits. They are eager and ready to learn from you and support your organization! If you would like to help mentor a first-year student in their engaged citizen journey, this program is for you!
*While the site supervisors will have the opportunity to meet the students in advance and do a ranking process, they do not choose which student will serve at their site.
How to get your agency involved:
