Recreation Services FAQ's

Please see below for Frequently Asked Questions about COVID-19 regarding recreation services.

Will the Bell Center’s fitness room be open?

Yes. Reservations are required to access weightlifting spaces and cardio equipment. Reservations will be taken online through the Rec Web Portal (rec.drake.edu). Reservations will be for 60 minutes, with the last 15 minutes reserved for cleaning.

To sanitize equipment between uses, spray bottles and paper towels will be available. Patrons must wipe down equipment when they are done and the Rec Services staff will clean between each use. Please note that lifters will need to use appropriate weights because no spotting is allowed.

Will the Bell Center pool be open?

Yes. Reservations are required to access the pool and reserve a shower and swim lane. Reservations will be taken online through the Rec Web Portal (rec.drake.edu). Reservations will be for 50 minutes, with the last 10 minutes reserved for cleaning. A maximum of 4 reservations will be allowed per hour, accommodating two men and two women.

Showering is required before entering the pool area. Swimmers should swim in the middle of their lane to maintain 6 feet of distance between swimmers. Pool equipment will be available. After use, swimmers will place equipment into a used equipment area. Showers will be labeled for swimmers’ reservations only and will be cleaned by the complex manager between open swim times.

Will the fitness studio be open?

Yes. Reservations are required to access the equipment and stretching space. Reservations will be taken online through the Rec Web Portal (rec.drake.edu). Reservations will be for 60 minutes, with the last 15 minutes reserved for cleaning.

Users can access equipment from the shelves and will place used equipment in a bin to be cleaned when finished. Disinfectant spray bottles and paper towels will be available. Patrons need to wipe down equipment when they are done, and student workers will clean according to protocols after each reservation.

Will Drake Rec Services be offering group exercise?

Yes. Reservations for group exercise are required and made through the Drake Web Portal (rec.drake.edu). In-person classes are limited to 10 participants and one instructor. On demand classes are also offered virtually through the Drake Rec App.

Will the Bell Center gym be open?

Yes. Reservations for use of the Bell Center Gym are required. Reservations will be taken online through the Rec Web Portal (rec.drake.edu). Reservations will be for 60 minutes, with the last 15 minutes reserved for cleaning.

Will Underground Fitness be open?

Yes. Reservations are required to access weightlifting spaces and cardio equipment. Reservations will be taken online through the Rec Web Portal (rec.drake.edu). Will the racquetball courts be open?

The Racquetball courts will be closed at this time to avoid shared use of sport equipment.

How will Rec Services oversee intramurals during the Spring 2021 semester?

We are offering virtual and in person intramural options.

All intramural offerings will be shown on the Drake Rec App and on imleagues.com/drake.

Will Rec Services be offering wellness consultations?

Yes. Wellness consultations, fitness testing, and body compositions are available by contacting wellness@drake.edu.
