Drake University’s policies and protocols regarding COVID-19 are focused on the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and the public with whom we interact. This guide is intended to assist visitors when visiting campus.
Minimizing the risk of COVID-19 infections is a shared responsibility. Learn more about our , intended to minimize the risk of transmission. Although Drake is taking appropriate steps in accordance with established guidelines, the risk of contracting COVID-19 cannot be eliminated.
The University’s plans follow recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Iowa Department of Public Health, and Polk County Health. Knowledge and understanding of the COVID-19 virus continue to evolve, as will our policies and plans. This website is the University’s central source of updates and information regarding COVID-19.
Minimizing the number of people on campus will help lower the risk of COVID-19 transmission. When visiting campus, please adhere to our policies and protocols.
Guided tours of campus are currently available for prospective students and their families. Please see our admission visitor page to learn more about our in-person options.
Campus events are limited for the time being. Refer to the University’s online calendar. If you are interested in scheduling an event on campus in the future, please contact the Office of Conference and Event Services to discuss your needs and our current restrictions.
The campus community stands united in our #DrakeTogether Commitments. Please pay close attention to these three principles:
Mandatory Face Coverings: All students—along with faculty, staff, vendors, and visitors—are required to wear masks or other face coverings while in campus buildings unless they are alone in their rooms or offices, or participating in activities where a mask cannot be worn (e.g., eating, drinking, playing a musical instrument, etc.). Faculty teaching in classrooms must wear masks unless an exemption has been granted by Environmental Health and Safety and approved by the provost. Face coverings are no longer required outdoors on Drake’s campus.
Social Distancing: While on-campus, all students, faculty, staff, vendors, and visitors must maintain a social distance of at least three feet from others wherever possible. Classroom assignments and configurations have been adjusted accordingly. Everyone on campus is expected to follow any signage or other instruction regarding the use of common spaces, hallways or pathways.
Self-monitoring and Reporting: Students are expected to monitor for indications of a COVID-19 like illness, seek testing if necessary, and report immediately any confirmed exposure or positive test result.
