Drake University’s policies and protocols regarding COVID-19 are focused on the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and the public with whom we interact. This guide is intended to assist visitors with their safe return to campus.
Minimizing the risk of COVID-19 infections is a shared responsibility. Learn more about our #DrakeTogetherCommitments, intended to minimize the risk of transmission. Although Drake is taking appropriate steps in accordance with established guidelines, the risk of contracting COVID-19 cannot be eliminated.
The University’s plans follow recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Iowa Department of Public Health, and Polk County Health. Knowledge and understanding of the COVID-19 virus continue to evolve, as will our policies and plans. This website is the University’s central source of updates and information regarding COVID-19.
We are in the midst of a global pandemic. Minimizing the number of people on campus will help lower the risk of COVID-19 transmission. If you are the family or friend of a residential student, please consider whether your visit is essential. And, if visiting, please adhere to our policies and protocols.
Guided tours of campus are currently not available. They are tentatively scheduled to resume once fall semester is underway. For now, please contact the Office of Admission regarding virtual visit options and other ways of learning more about our beautiful campus.
Campus events are limited for the time being and most are restricted to current students, faculty and staff. Refer to the University’s online calendar. If you are interested in scheduling an event on campus in the future, please contact the Office of Conference and Event Services to discuss your needs and our current restrictions.
The campus community stands united in our #DrakeTogether Commitments, and we expect all visitors to adhere to our policies and protocol. Please pay close attention to these three principles:
Mandatory Face Coverings: All visitors and vendors —along with faculty, staff and students—are required to wear masks or other face coverings while in campus buildings. Masks are required on campus grounds when a social distance of at least six feet cannot be maintained.
Social Distancing: While on-campus, all students, faculty, staff, vendors and visitors must maintain a social distance of at least six feet from others wherever possible. Everyone on campus is expected to follow any signage or other instruction regarding the use of common spaces, hallways or pathways.
Self-monitoring and Reporting: Visitors are expected to monitor their own body temperature for indications of a COVID-19 like illness, and avoid coming to campus if such symptoms (e.g. elevated body temp, cough, etc.) are present.
