Friday, October 2nd, 2020

The Psi Chapter of Phi Delta Chi and Beta Chi Chapter of Kappa Psi in Drake University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (CPHS) both ranked in the top 10 performing chapters in the nation for their respective professional pharmacy fraternities during the 2019-2020 academic year. Both fraternities have stellar records for ranking well in these awards throughout the years of their existence at Drake University. The national rankings are determined by various factors including scholarship, philanthropy, and brotherhood, among other components.

The Psi Chapter of Phi Delta Chi ranked 6th in the national Thurston Cup Grand President’s Award. Morgan Hawkins, fourth-year pharmacy student, led the chapter for the 2019-2020 academic year. “The Psi Chapter of Phi Delta Chi is extremely excited about receiving 6th place in the nation for the 2019-2020 school year,” said Hawkins. “While the end of the year did not look normal, our members persevered and overcame a lot of challenges.”

The Beta Chi Chapter of Kappa Psi ranked 7th in the Outstanding Chapter of the Year Award for the 2019-2020 academic year. Claire Monzel, fourth-year pharmacy student, led the chapter as Regent for the 2019-2020 academic year. “The Beta Chi chapter of Kappa Psi has worked hard for many years to achieve and maintain a Top 10 ranking within the organization,” said Monzel. “As a chapter we strive to embody the characteristics of lifelong excellence in the profession of pharmacy and in our personal lives.”

The CPHS supports a robust group of over 20 student organizations including professional fraternities, professional organizations, honorary societies, and the College’s student government. Students are also involved on many of the college committees. The College supports student involvement in these organizations to help students build skills, network, and develop as professionals.

“These national rankings recognize the dedication and hard work that our students have put toward excelling,” said Renae Chesnut, Dean of the College. “They embody our values of collaboration, professionalism, and entrepreneurial leadership.”
