The Office of Campus Equity and Inclusion is changing the face of the faculty and staff at Drake University.

Search committees are being challenged to pursue a variety of avenues to create deep and diverse candidate pools in the hiring process, bringing more candidates from underrepresented populations to Drake University. Search chairs and committees receive training and ongoing support throughout the recruitment and hiring process.


The Office of Campus Equity and Inclusion currently supports Search Committees in:

  • Creating recruitment plans that include outreach and advertising in media that reach out to underrepresented communities
  • Wording recruitment materials and descriptions to be welcoming to diverse populations.
  • Analyzing candidate pools to determine the next best steps
  • Training search committees on interview processes free of implicit bias


Work continues on opening the door for Diversity Fellows at Drake, a program that brings in promising faculty candidates and supports their research and terminal degree achievement. The Office of Campus Equity and Inclusion is also creating partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities to establish pipelines for underrepresented populations to find their way to the Drake Faculty.
