Drake’s Entrepreneurial Management program provides the opportunity to develop the skills to start your own business, create a breakthrough niche in an industry, or bring entrepreneurial know-how to your future workplace.
Every industry, every career demands entrepreneurial individuals focused on solving problems and thinking innovatively, and our faculty will give you the knowledge, experience, and assistance you need to put those skills to work so you’re ready to lead.
You’ll find a variety of options to pursue your interest in entrepreneurship, from our Entrepreneurial Management major and Entrepreneurship minor to centers and competitions that provide powerful opportunities to test your business ideas and inventive mindset.
Plus, Drake’s location in Des Moines provides unlimited possibilities for you to gain experience and network with up-and-coming entrepreneurs in one of the nation’s best environments for startups. Some of Des Moines’ latest accolades include:
The Buchanan Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, established by William and Jean Buchanan, is focused on providing up-to-date and challenging academic and cocurricular opportunities for entrepreneurial students. It is home to Drake’s major in entrepreneurial management, the joint entrepreneurial management major, the entrepreneurship minor, and an entrepreneurship concentration.
The Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship Outreach—made possible by a gift from John and Mary Pappajohn—serves to create a strong relationship between Drake University and the entrepreneurial community in Greater Des Moines and throughout Iowa. Through programs and events including business plan competitions, entrepreneurs expand their possibilities, and you’ll gain opportunities for hands-on experiences with small business owners.
Through the two centers, entrepreneurship education opportunities are found in every college and school across campus. From Delta Rx in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences to app development courses in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication to the music business concentration in the College of Arts and Sciences, entrepreneurial leadership is an important aspect of Drake education.
