Apply for Financial Aid

College is an investment in the rest of your life.  At Drake, we not only provide the exceptional learning and rich experiences that will maximize the value of that investment, but we also work hard to make a Drake education affordable for your family.

There are 3 steps you must follow to apply for financial aid:

Step 1:  Admission

Being admitted to a degree program at Drake University is the first step to obtaining financial aid.  To learn more about our degree programs and admission process, please visit our Admission site.

Step 2:  Create an FSA User ID

The FSA ID is a permanent and unique username/password combination tied to one social security number.  Both student and at least one reporting parent needs their own FSA ID to complete the FAFSA.  The FSA ID can also be used when logging into other Federal Student Aid websites and applications.  See FSA ID FAQ for more information.

Step 3:  Complete the FAFSA

The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  We encourage all students to file a FAFSA to ensure consideration for all federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs.

The FAFSA may be filed at any time after October 1 for the next academic year.  When completing the FAFSA, make sure to select the correct academic year for which you are applying for financial aid.  Please note the FAFSA must be filed each year.  Be sure to list Drake (school code 001860) in the school section on the FAFSA.

The best option for filing the FAFSA is either online or through the myStudentAid app (available for download in the app store).  If these options do not work for you, please contact the Office of Student Financial Planning or Federal Student Aid at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).  You can also visit FAFSA HELP.

Step 4 (Optional): Report Special Circumstances Not Reflected on the FAFSA

If you or your family has special circumstances that are impacting your ability to pay for college, you can report them on the Special Circumstances Form (hyperlink to attached PDF). This form should be completed when the FAFSA is submitted, or whenever the situation becomes known. Be sure to include all supporting documentation when submitting this form. Special Circumstances Form
