Procedures for Friends of Drake Arts (FDA) Student Travel and Research Funds 

The Friends of Drake Arts offer grants of up to $500 per student per school year to create opportunities for fine arts students to expand their Drake experience by positively impacting their ability to collaborate with all areas of the university, connect with partners in the Greater Des Moines community, and travel to capitalize on unique experiences to enhance their fine arts education. Students and faculty are both eligible to apply for funds, but all applications must demonstrate student involvement in the planning process.

Timeline

2021 - 2022 Deadlines
Grants will be awarded by FDA on an ongoing basis, with grant reviews bimonthly according by the deadlines below. If an application is submitted following the deadline, it will be reviewed for the following round.

• December 1, 2021
• February 1, 2022
• April 1, 2022
• June 1, 2022

Award Notifications

Applicants will be notified of funding decisions within 2 weeks of each funding deadline.

Report Deadline

Following a successful award, grantees are required to submit a brief report on their experience indicating 1) the use of funds, with receipts attached for expenses, and 2) the quality of the learning, research, performance activity and impact on Drake University. The report is due to the fine arts coordinator no later than one month after the completion of the funded activity by emailing friendsofdrakearts@drake.edu.

Eligibility

• Eligible applicants include students currently enrolled at Drake University in a fine arts program or fine arts faculty.
• Applicants are limited to one application per deadline, and one award of up to $500 per school year.
• Applications may not be resubmitted if the first request is unfunded.
• Funded activities must align with one of the Friends of Drake Arts’ three funding priorities.

Budget

Submit a budget to the fine arts coordinator at friendsofdrakearts@drake.edu after completing the application.  A FDA Budget Template has been provided as a guide to consider all expenses and revenue sources for your endeavor.

Review Process

Applications will be reviewed by the Friends of Drake Arts Steering Committee following each grant deadline. Evaluations will be based on the criteria outlined in the included scoring rubric and availability of funds. All decisions are final.

Eligible Projects

Projects, activities, or opportunities must fall under one of the following funding priorities:

• Student Travel & Professional Development
  These grants defray the cost of travel for fine arts students pursuing extracurricular activities to supplement their Drake education.
• Community Outreach & Partnership
  These projects facilitate activities which connect Drake Fine Arts students to the Greater Des Moines Community. Special performances, partnerships, classes, or presentations that involve partnerships with entities outside of Drake will be given preference.
• Campus Outreach & Interdepartmental Collaboration
  Projects support the collaborative efforts to connect two department or classroom experiences on Drake’s campus to more fully expose students to Drake Fine Arts. Eligible projects include efforts to combine curriculum from two departments, or efforts to expose Drake’s campus to the fine arts in creative ways.
• NO LONGER AVAILABLE: COVID-19 Grants Eligible requests include any additional costs one has incurred for classes at Drake due to COVID-19. An example of this includes additional materials/technology in order to learn remotely.
