Drake University Law School is consistently recognized for the strength of its legal writing program. In the 2021 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Law Schools, Drake Law School ranks 12th in the nation for legal writing, again among the top 20 this year.
Drake Law School equips students with the legal writing and research skills they need to succeed in the profession. Students also participate in activities beyond the classroom to hone their legal communication skills.
At the National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition, Drake Law students Sheridan DeJong and Mariah Kauder won Best Brief for their party.
Drake Law students Lauren Calef, Rachel Soderstrum, and Logan Brundage won Best Brief and went undefeated in oral arguments at regionals before competing in the ‘final four’ at the 70th Annual National Moot Court Competition.
Outside of coursework and extracurricular activities, students have additional opportunities to demonstrate their legal writing skills. Drake Law student John Gilbertson was runner-up in the 2020 Entertainment Law Initiative Writing Competition for his paper title Play It Again Sam: The Free-Market Case for Government Intervention in the Music Streaming Sector.
“I am pleased that U.S. News continues to recognize the excellence with which we train our students to communicate effectively and present precise legal analysis—one of the key components of any legal career,” said Drake Law School dean, Jerry Anderson. “The real proof of the quality of a Drake Law legal education, however, continues to be found in the success of our more than 6,000 graduates in all 50 states and across the globe.”
Overall, Drake University Law School advanced 17 spots and ranks 105th on the 2021 U.S. News & World Report Best Law Schools list.
