Volunteer for Vets

Friday, Oct. 22, 1 p.m.
Join Professor Bob Rigg at the Des Moines Vets Center to interview veterans for referral to Polk County Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyers Project. Contact Prof. Rigg to sign up. 

Virtual Diaper Drive - Sponsored by the Health Law Society and Christian Legal Society

Now through Oct. 30
CLS and HLS are sponsorting a Diaper Drive to benefit the Small Start Project, a diaper distribution serving refugee and imigrant families in the Des Moines metro area.

Powers of Attorney and Living Will Clinic 

Two shifts available: 10–11:30 a.m. or 4–5:30 p.m.
Volunteers needed to work one-one-one with clinic participants to complete advance directives forms. Open to all law students. No experience necessary.

Food Bank of Iowa – Food Sorting Crew, sponsored by DAELA 

9 - 11:30 a.m. 
Volunteers needed to sort and package food for the Food Bank of Iowa

Clean up at the Bill Riley Trail, Greenwood Park *GREAT NETWORKING OPPORTUNITY*

10 a.m. - noon
Hosted by Dean Jerry Anderson. Participants include members of the Iowa Court of Appeals.

LifeServe Blood Drive - Sponsored by the Drake Law Delts

The attorneys at Whitfield Law have invited Drake Law students to join them for this community service project. They will end their work session with lunch at Captain Roy’s. Contact Marc Hollander at for more information or to volunteer.

Saturday, October 23

Immigration Law Clinic - Sponsored by Drake Refugee Clinic, Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice and EMBARC (the Burmese refugee support organization)

8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. (Lunch will be provided)
Following a brief training (8:30-10 a.m.), volunteers will work directly with resettled refugees applying for green cards and/or review documents produced through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests in preparation for naturalization. 

Volunteers will need to bring personal laptops to complete paperwork and conduct FOIA reviews. 

Monday, October 25 

Crafting for a Cause

6-9 p.m.
Volunteers will work with project leader DeAnn McCue to create items that will be sold to benefit 
Dorothy's House at the annual Christmas with a Cause event.

Halloween Hoops - Sponsored by PILA

5-7 p.m.
Volunteers will help at various stations or games for safe trick or treating with kids in the community. It is a very interactive volunteer event with the Drake Community and a lot of fun! A Drake Law tradition!
