Class Year Awards-
Awarded to first-year through senior/P2 students who have made extraordinary contributions through leadership and involvement in the Drake community. They have demonstrated their commitment in making Drake a better place. Their academic and extracurricular involvement, as well as their character, exemplifies the best in all Drake students.
David Maxwell Outstanding President/Chairperson Award-
Awarded to a University-recognized student organization president or chairperson who has demonstrated outstanding leadership. This student's work represents the ideals of the organization and their innovative ideas have strengthened the character of the organization and fostered campus unity. Named in honor of former Drake University President, David Maxwell.
Outstanding Student Organization Officer -
Awarded to a University-recognized student organization officer (outside of president/chairperson) who has exhibited outstanding leadership for their organization and campus community during their term. This person has gone above and beyond their organizational responsibilities to have a positive impact. They mentor other members and are dedicated to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment in their organization.
Outstanding Residence Hall Leader Award-
Awarded to a student who possesses strong leadership characteristics and exhibits an outstanding commitment to building community in their on-campus living environment.
Drake Service Award:Individual -
Awarded to an individual who has demonstrated commitment to build up relationships in communities of which they are a part through the depth and/or breadth of their involvements. This student has provided meaningful service that has strengthened relationships between Drake University and the Greater Des Moines community.
Wanda E. Everage Peer Mentor Award-
This award is given to a student who has made an extraordinary contribution to the life of another Drake student or students. Most notably, their commitment to others has distinguished them as an outstanding peer mentor. This award is named in honor of Wanda E. Everage whose twenty-four year career at Drake was marked by a unique passion for mentoring students and empowering them to build meaningful relationships with their peers.
Oreon E. Scott Award - Exemplary Senior at Drake
The Oreon E. Scott Award recipient is considered to be the outstanding senior student at Drake. Excellence in scholarship, leadership, service and involvement are hallmarks of the Oreon E. Scott Award winner. As part of their honor, the recipient will have the opportunity to speak at Commencement. This award requires additional supporting information.
Organization Adviser of the Year-
This award is presented to an adviser who has served a Drake University group above and beyond expectations. The adviser has a strong belief in the organization, a willingness to commit sufficient time to the organization, encourages the development of responsibility and leadership in students, and displays an interest in students’ personal growth and development. This individual may be new to the position or may have been working with the group for several years.
Ron and Jane Olson Outstanding Global Service-Learning Student Award
The Ron and Jane Olson Award recipient has engaged in global service-learning and has demonstrated an on-going commitment to community relationships internationally and/or locally. This student exhibits values that encourage service and provides leadership to support the continuation of global service-learning partnerships. As part of their honor, the recipient will receive a $500 award.
Outstanding Organization Award-
Awarded to a University-recognized student organization that has shown an overall level of excellence in its members, programs, and services during the academic year. The organization supports the leadership development of its members, seeks opportunities to collaborate with other student organizations and/or University departments, and positively contributes to the Drake university community.
Drake Service Award:Organization -
Given to a student organization or group that has demonstrated commitment to build up relationships in communities of which they are a part through the depth and/or breadth of their involvements. This organization has provided meaningful service that has strengthened relationships between Drake University and the Greater Des Moines community.
Outstanding Educational Program Award-
This award is presented to the University-recognized student organization that created a program(s) that encouraged the Drake community’s growth of knowledge, understanding, or skill on any issue, topic, or subject.
Outstanding Social Program Award-
This award is given to an organization that provides positive social interaction between students, demonstrates strategic planning and creativity, utilizes excellent publicity techniques to reach targeted audience, and provides a fun opportunity for a significant number of Drake University students.
Outstanding Equity & Inclusion Program Award-
Presented to an organization that has demonstrated outstanding leadership on issues central to intercultural understanding, and seeks to understand and respond to contemporary calls for inclusivity as necessitated by social justice. The award recognizes efforts of a program that enhances campus climate, moving past mere tolerance of diversity and creating a culture of inclusion that sees diversity of identities, backgrounds, and ideas as fundamental to our excellence and success as an institution
Outstanding Weekend Alcohol Alternative Program Award-
This award honors a student organization that demonstrated, through a program, event, or awareness campaign, a continuing commitment to engaging students in an environment that provides an alternative to alcohol.
Outstanding Collaboration Award
This award recognizes collaborations among two or more student organizations or groups. The cosponsored program, project, or initiative should have been a new effort, one that brought together different facets of campus and which served to build and strengthen the campus community. Organizations worked together from beginning to plan, execute, and evaluate their program.
