Biochemistry, Cell, and Molecular Biology and Public Relations double major
As I graduate from Drake after four jam-packed years, I know I’ve changed since my initial arrival as a first-year student. From volunteering at the Young Women’s Resource Center to interning as a legislative liaison at the Iowa Department of Public Health to organizing a full-day symposium on integrating human rights advocacy into the professions, I’ve found something to engage all my different interests and passions.
Drake has a really welcoming community, and you don’t have to be just a chemist or just a journalist, you can be a dynamic person and you can find something for all those different parts of you. My enjoyment of the outdoors or my involvement in community service all fit into a lifestyle beyond my work life. I’ve been inspired, challenged, mentored, and discovered more than I could have imagined.
Four years later, I have a lot more direction and sense of self. I might not know exactly where I’m going to medical school in a few years, but I know what I want to do and what I’m passionate about.
