If you’re a teenage girl in America, you’ve probably read Seventeen. I certainly did, and I dreamed of working for this national magazine since age 12 after receiving my first issue in the mail. That dream became a reality this past summer when I interned for Seventeen in New York City.
It was an exhilarating and fast-paced experience. I was working side-by-side with my role models, including Seventeen Editor-in-Chief Ann Shoket and Creative Director Jessica Musumeci.
I couldn’t have achieved this dream without the network I’ve created through Drake. With the help of my professors and Drake alumni, my information got in front of the right people, helping me land this competitive internship. Drake connections also helped me obtain internships with Meredith Corporation as a design apprentice for Lowe’s Creative Ideas, and I’ll be continuing my work with Meredith in their brand-licensing department this summer as a full-time intern. With all these experiences, I’ve been able to combine my passions for writing and design while gaining professional preparation for my career aspirations in the Big Apple.
