Joyce Beyer holds a Bachelor of Music in Education and Master of Arts focused in string pedagogy from the University of Northern Iowa. Her thesis centered around student perceptions of success and inclusion in orchestra and the impact of strategically programming underrepresented. Joyce Beyer is passionate about the importance of strong music programs in the schools and has worked for years in the public-school setting. She is currently the Orchestra Director at Valley High School in West Des Moines Community Schools. In 2021, Beyer was the recipient of the Robert E. and Phyllis M. Yager Exemplary Teaching Recognition Award.
As a musician, Joyce Beyer performs regularly with Quartet 515, of which she is co-founder and violist. She also frequently performs with the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra as well as various other ensembles throughout the area.
