Linda Vanderpool

Linda Vanderpool currently serves as Teaching Artist and Lecturer of Music at Drake University, where she conducts the Drake Chorale, teaches Secondary Vocal/General Music Methods and Techniques of Jazz/Show Choir, and supervises choral music student teachers.  

Linda taught for 30 years in several Iowa public school districts, most recently as Director of Vocal Music at Valley High School in West Des Moines. A versatile conductor, Linda led choral and vocal jazz ensembles in performances at such sites as the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Carnegie Hall in New York City, Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival at the University of Idaho in Moscow, and the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. Ensembles consistently earned outstanding ratings at the state and national levels under her direction.

Linda holds a Master of Music Education with choral emphasis from Drake University and a Bachelor of Music Education Cum Laude from Simpson College where she studied voice and piano. She is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and is an adjudicator for the Iowa High School Music Association. Her expertise in vocal jazz is in demand at both secondary and collegiate levels, and she mentors area professionals in the development of high caliber vocal jazz choral curricula.

In 1998, Linda was named Chairperson for the Iowa All State Jazz Choir and continued to chair that event until 2001. She was appointed to the ICDA Executive Board in 1999 as Repertoire and Standards Chair for jazz choirs, became North Central ACDA Repertoire and Standards Chair for jazz choirs in 2010, and served as chair of the 2003 ICDA Summer Convention. Most recently, she was chair of reading sessions at the 2012 North Central ACDA convention in Madison. Linda served on the board of the Best of Iowa Jazz Choir Championships, the board of Jazz Educators of Iowa (JEI) and was listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 2000, 2005, and 2007. She was the Festival Director for AmericaFest International Singing Festival for Men and Boys for four seasons.
