Introducing Rudy Trejo and Isaac Newsome!

Rudy Trejo

Drake University recently appointed Rudy Greg Trejo as the new Assistant Dean of Students for Campus Enrichment & Student Equity. Dean Trejo has served in multiple student affairs leadership positions over the last decade in higher education.  Rudy began his higher education career as Assistant Director of Student Activities for Student Government Leadership at the University of Arkansas.  Over the past few years, Rudy had served as Associate Director of Student Involvement at Washington State University and most recently, Director of Student Engagement at the University of Denver. Previous to his time in higher education, Rudy served as the Program Coordinator in the YWCA El Paso del Norte Region-Teen Leadership Department. In 2018, Rudy served on the National Association of Student Personal Administrators Undergraduate Fellows Program National Board of Directors.

Assistant Dean Trejo holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas and a master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at El Paso. As Assistant Dean, Rudy will oversee and provide leadership to Fraternity & Sorority Life;  Violence Prevention Programs; Student Life; Spiritual Life; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives, the Cultural Centers, and serve as advisor Unity Roundtable, a student organization.

Rudy strives to ensure that students at Drake have a impactful co-curricular experience that complements the learning occurring inside the classroom.

Isaac Newsome

Isaac Newsome Jr is a two-time graduate at the University of Norther Iowa, notably receiving a master’s degree in Post- Secondary Education in March 2019. Upon his graduation Isaac served as an Academic Support Specialist for students apart of UNI’s Trio program. In addition to his work at UNI Isaac served as a graduate assistant for the Center for Multicultural Education, and in their Dean of Students office working in student conduct.

Prior to Drake in Isaac’s previous role, he served as a Program Coordinator at Iowa Campus Compact.

Isaac is passionate in creating content that promotes unity and diversity. He also enjoys supporting and advocating for his students while helping them achieve their goals and will continue to do so while at Drake.
