As we start to experience cooler temperatures, we’re encouraging first-year students to think ahead to January, when students can participate in their first J-Term experience. The fall term ends on Friday, December 17, and the spring semester is set to begin on Monday, January 24. With a 38-day break between semesters, we are excited to offer 10 opportunities for first-year students to engage in experiential learning through the J-term.
During Drake’s J-Term, for three weeks, students and faculty engage in intensive, focused learning opportunities, with no distractions from other classes. The purpose of the first-year J-term experience is to help students apply reflective, experiential learning to achieve our mission: meaningful personal lives, professional accomplishments, and responsible global citizenship.
We have designed 10 unique experiences, available exclusively to first-year students, and registration is open until September 21. We’ll be offering 7 virtual experiences, 2 travel courses – venturing to Belize and England, and 1 retreat opportunity. A full list of courses, including descriptions, and registration information is available online: https://www.drake.edu/dc/j-termexperience/2022first-yearexperiencepilotprogram/
These courses are being offered as zero-credit, transcriptable experiences. There is no tuition charge to first-year students for participation in the First-Year J-term Experience. Any experience-specific fees, such as travel costs, are noted on the website.
We hope students will take advantage of these opportunities to engage and make the most of their first J-Term at Drake!
