First Professional Year (P1) Experiential Course Descriptions
Dispensing - Early Experience
P1 students will participate in dispensing activities, spending a minimum of 40 hours in a dispensing environment, such as a community practice or hospital setting. Course goals include demonstration of skills in the competency categories of Drug Therapy Problem-Solving, Communication, Product and Service Management, and Professionalism in order to safely and accurately prepare and dispense medication in addition to comparing various pharmacy practice settings.
Geriatric Service Learning
Students spend a minimum of 20 hours getting to know a geriatric patient in a long term care or elder care facility. The project is directed at developing professionalism, empathy, caring and communication through the development of a personal relationship between the student and an elderly individual.
