SJMC Monday Memo | July 6, 2020

Monday, July 6th, 2020

Thanks to all of our current students who volunteered to mentor our first-years. Can’t wait to welcome them to the Drake SJMC family!

Alumni news

Greg Swan, JO’13, and his daughter Annie were featured on the Minneapolis Institute of Art’s website. Greg has volunteered for years in the institute’s Art Adventure program that fosters creativity, empathy and critical thinking among children. When the pandemic shut down the program, Greg created a virtual version. In his day job, Greg is director of digital and innovation for the Fallon agency in the Twin Cities.

Still looking for a job — or want to help an SJMC grad find one?

The SJMC, in partnership with Drake Professional and Career Development Services, would like to facilitate connections between recent graduates who are job hunting, and alumni and professionals who are willing to provide feedback, advice, connections and networking. If you are an alum or SJMC friend who is interested in providing mentorship or a graduate who is job hunting, please contact SJMC Dean Kathleen Richardson (kathleen.richardson@drake.edu) to express your interest in being involved.

Reminders

Apply to be a Fulbright scholar: The international Fulbright scholarship program provides funds for college graduates to teach English or conduct research or a creative project overseas. Many SJMC seniors and recent grads have received scholarships to work all over the world. The deadline for the application is October, but the process is extensive, so you need to start now. Contact associate professor Eleanor Zeff (eleanor.zeff@drake.edu), Drake’s coordinator of post-graduate scholarships, as soon as possible.

On-campus internship: Drake’s Information Technology Services is hiring a communications assistant for the 2020-21 school year. The IT Communications Assistant will create communication plans using social media, print, the OnCampus e-newsletter, and other avenues to promote ITS services to their fellow students. The job will pay $9/hour and will be able to work 300 hours over the school year beginning in late August. Apply on Handshake by July 31.
