SJMC Office Door Open for Business Hours

When accessing the SJMC offices at 1213 25th Street, students, faculty, and staff no longer need to swipe a Drake ID or press the green button during business hours. The main door will be unlocked 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Users still need to swipe ID cards and use the green button for the studio and computer lab doors.

Students: Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Scholarships

BEA administers scholarships annually, to honor broadcasters and the entire electronic media profession. Scholarship applications for the 2023-2024 school year are due October 14. Please see the BEA website for scholarship descriptions, directions, and applications. Drake is a BEA member institution, so undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for various scholarships in any electronic media, as well as specific broadcast and radio/audio areas. The Broadcast Education Association (BEA) is the premier international academic media organization, promoting insights, excellence in media production, and career advancement for educators, students, and professionals.

Students: FREE luncheon featuring journalist Laura Ling

SJMC students can still email Denise Ganpat to receive an invitation from Deputy Provost Cramer to attend the Chrysalis Inspired luncheon as her guest. Laura Ling, this year’s keynote speaker, is an investigative journalist, documentarian, and producer. When reporting on trafficking of North Korean women in 2009, Ling and her colleague were arrested and spent 140 days imprisoned. Event details: Tuesday, October 11 at 11:30 a.m. at the Sheraton West Des Moines.

Thank you to everyone who has visited our new 25th Street location over the past two weeks. The winners of the scavenger hunt are Andrew Kennard and Grace Altenhofen.
